Changes to the Rottnest Island Management Plan

The draft RIMP stated that:

The draft Management Plan may be amended if a submission:

  • provides additional information of direct relevance to management;
  • indicates a change in or clarifies government legislation, management policy or commitment;
  • proposes strategies that would better achieve the management objectives;
  • indicates omissions or lack of clarity.

The draft Management Plan may not be amended if a submission:

  • 1 addresses issues beyond the scope of the RIMP
  • 2 makes points that are already in the Plan or were considered during its preparation
  • 3 makes points which are operational rather strategic in nature
  • 4 contributes options that are not possible due to legislation, government policy or funding requirements

Specific comments were considered and changes made to the draft RIMP.

The changes are listed in a response table (pdf 131KB) that summarises public comment and feedback on the draft RIMP 2009-14 and resulting amendments.  The categories in the table are based on the most common issues raised and the sections of the RIMP.

Where a comment did not result in a change to the draft RIMP, the superscripts 1,2,3 and 4 (defined above) are used to explain why the RIMP was not amended.

The main amendment was the inclusion of further opportunity for public comment on significant developments, such as accommodation and facilities, through a strengthened development planning process. The process will include opportunity for stakeholders to comment on the size, scale and potential impacts of proposed developments, similar to the process used in local government planning processes.
