Why have a ballot?
Due to the high demand for accommodation on Rottnest Island during peak Western Australian school holidays, a ballot system is run to allow all applicants an equal chance of reserving accommodation during these popular periods.
Ballots are run for the Western Australian Summer and Easter (first term) school holidays. While the second term (July) and third term (September) holidays are not subject to a ballot, accommodation is available only for set periods. Check the Department of Education website for school term dates here .
The ballot is a totally automated random computer selection. The allocation is based on where your application is situated in the randomised queue and the remaining availability that matches your preferences. The selection process by the computer is based on your numbered preferences. You need to read the form very carefully before completing it to maximise your chance of a suitable allocation.
Please note that only one ballot per household is to be lodged. Duplicate applications will be cancelled. People with mobility impairment will need to lodge their ballot application and provide an accompanying letter advising that special facilities are required. This must also be received by the closing date.
