Diving and Snorkelling

The diversity of fish and coral species, and the numerous shipwrecks found around the Island, make Rottnest Island a favourite site for SCUBA divers and snorkellers in Western Australia. Many species of tropical fish make their home in and around the numerous reefs surrounding Rottnest, making it one of the most fascinating dive and snorkelling sites to be found in such close proximity to a capital city. See the marine life section of the site for more information on what you can expect to see in the Rottnest Island Marine Reserve.

A snorkel trail can be followed at Parker Point, and there are also plaques on location at Kingstown Reef with many other reefs around the Island offering great viewing opportunities. A very useful publication on snorkelling at Rottnest Island is also available. Ask at the Visitor Centre for more information on diving and snorkelling. Please note that spearguns and handspears are not permitted in the Marine Reserve.

Please take care when snorkelling and diving around coral as it is easily damaged and may take many years to recover.

Dive operators based on the mainland conduct day trips and dives at Rottnest Island. Please check the www.yellowpages.com.au details.
