Beach functions are popular on Rottnest Island for activities such as social club or corporate days, family reunions and weddings.

The RIA recommends the following bays for the staging of events and functions, for environmental and public health reasons. Please note the regulations relating to alcohol consumption outside of licensed premises. For environmental and safety reasons, glasswear is not permitted on the beaches of Rottnest Island.

City of York Bay
A picturesque bay on the northern side of the Island. This area has no sun shelter and no BBQs. You may wish to consider hiring a marquee from the mainland (approval required from RIA) or bring umbrellas. Toilet facilities available. Please stay clear of the fenced off sand dunes.

Geordie Bay BBQ Shelter
Near both public toilets and the Geordie Bay Store, this is a great location for groups of up to 30 people.

Longreach Bay, Green Island, Stark Bay, Narrowneck
These bays have toilet facilities only.

Thomson Bay Boatshed BBQ shelter
Located north of the Visitor and Information Centre, this is a great location for groups of up to 50 people. No alcohol is permitted in this location.

Thomson Bay Army Jetty BBQ shelter
Located at the southern end of Thomson Bay, this site has toilet facilities and is suitable for groups of 50-100 people.
