Dome Cafe (May to November 2008)

Latest news:  The building of the new Dome Café is on schedule with the roof on and work beginning on the interior walls.

The old Dome building will be demolished during the month of August.  In preparation for shut down during the demolition, the Dome will be ceasing its meals and snack meals during July (with effect from 1st July).  Visitors will still be able to get one of their famous coffees, other hot and cold drinks and light snacks until the end of July..

On 26th May,  Dome celebrated the completion of the carpenters work with a “Richtfest” BBQ.

Richtfest is a German tradition that celebrates the finishing of the carpenters stage of work on a building site – i.e. up to roof height.  As explained  by one of the site supervisors, a carpenter from Germany who is helping Dome with the project, the “Richtfest”  involves walking around the site three times with the fir-tree wreath trimmed with ribbons and then fixing it to the top of the building.  It also involves the owner inserting a nail into the door frame - a few short speeches are also part together with the serving of food (a BBQ is Aussie terms).

It is a ceremony to say thanks for no injuries and wishing the owners a happy successful time with the building.
