Discovery Tour

Rottnest Island Discovery Tour is the Island's popular coach tour and includes full commentary from a coach captain on many aspects of the Island's unique history, environment, heritage and wildlife, as well as up-to-date information on new developments and activities on Rottnest.

Wadjemup Lighthouse and the West End are two of the highlights of this popular tour.

The tour takes approximately 90 minutes and departs daily from the Main Bus Stop on Rottnest Island.

Time: Tour departs daily from the bus stop in Thomson Bay at 11.20am and 1.10pm.

Tickets: Tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Centre.

The Oliver Hill Train and Tour

Join us on the ‘Captain Hussey’ and enjoy the scenic train ride to picturesque Oliver Hill for a guided tour of the massive 9.2 inch diameter guns and tunnel system that forms part of Rottnest Island’s significant military heritage.

The Train departs from the Settlement Railway Station and tickets are available at the Rottnest Island Visitor and Information Centre.

Time: Tour departs daily from the train platform at 11.20am and 1.30pm.

Rottnest is home to a colony of New Zealand Fur Seals and the tour guarantees exciting interactions everyday.

Atop the cliffs sit decades old Osprey nests. Watch these majestic birds swoop and glide. Cruise into protected bays and hear stories about the dreamtime and latter day history of this unique Island.

This is the ultimate natural Rottnest Adventure, with adaptive real time commentary. Your guides are motivated and passionate about the island. We are privileged to encounter such an abundance of wildlife along this coast and many of the wildlife are threatened.

Oliver Hill Guns and Tunnel Tour

A conducted one hour tour, over one of the restored World War II 9.2 inch guns and maze of underground tunnels. Discover why they were installed on Rottnest and how they operated. Either cycle (20 minutes) or walk (45 minutes) to Oliver Hill. Alternatively, you can take the train that links up with the guided tours and departs from the Settlement train station (fares apply and can include entry).

Check tour times and purchase tickets for your transport to the gun from the Visitor Centre. One hour tours operate daily 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm from 8 June to 31 August 2010.

Wadjemup Lighthouse Tour

Take the Bayseeker or ride your bike to Wadjemup Hill and experience the breathtaking 360 degree views from Wadjemup Lighthouse, the crystal sapphire Indian Ocean waters frame a stunning picture of the Island. This is also a unique opportunity to discover what goes on within the walls of a real working lighthouse.

Half hour tours operates daily from 11:30am, last tour 2:30pm from 8 June to 31 August 2010.

History of the Settlement

A free one hour guided history walk around the settlement. See where gaolers and ship pilots lived and worked. Discover why Rottnest became an Aboriginal 'open prison' in 1839.

Operates daily at 2pm from 8 June to 31 August 2010.

Reefs, Wrecks and Daring Sailors

Pilots were stationed on Rottnest Island between 1848 and 1903 to guide ships safely around the Island's dangerous reefs. This free walk to the Bathurst Lighthouse involves enthralling tales of the exploits of the Pilots and crew on Rottnest. The tour incorporates the pilot crew accommodation, the boathouse and replica pilot boat.

Tours depart Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 11am from 8 June to 31 August 2010.

Vlamingh Lookout and Salt Lakes Walk

Learn about the remarkable agriculture, industry and exports carried out by the early inhabitants of Rottnest. Walk past the Old Colonial Buildings of the Settlement on the way to the lookout. View the natural beauty of Rottnest and the salt lakes from this vantage point.

Departs Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11am from 8 June to 31 August 2010.

Quokka Walk

Rottnest Island's famous marsupial, the quokka, is discovered in this informative walking tour. With an educational focus, this walk leads participants to the quokka's natural habitats and imparts some interesting facts about this iconic animal.
