Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group Convoy

Rottnest Island Boating

 

BOATERS wanting to learn how to get to Rottnest Island safely are encouraged to attend a convoy.

Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group is hosting two escorted convoys that will leave from and return to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Sausage sizzle lunch and flare demonstration included.

Cost is $60 per boat and there will be no landing fees. Convoys are subject to the weather. Minimum vessel sizes apply.

 ANZAC Day

Anzac Day

 

ANZAC Day holds a special place on the Rottnest Island calendar of events. The Island has a long and proud tradition of military service and on ANZAC Day we commemorate the men and women, both past and present, who have served their country in this moving dawn service.

Presided over by Australian Navy Officers, the ceremony starts at 6.00am on the foreshore as the sun rises over the beautiful waters of Thomson Bay to the lament of the bagpipe. The service will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast proudly cooked by volunteers.

    Race Around Rottnest returns for its third year! The mini adventure race includes four fun filled and challenging stages and participants have the chance to tackle the course individually or as a team of up to 4 people.

    The off road journey takes competitors on an ocean swim, mountain bike ride, ocean paddle and trail run along the islands’ picturesque coast.

    Brooks Marathon

    Rottnest Island Authority Team Brooks Marathon

     

    The Brooks Rottnest Marathon and Fun Run has the full marathon along with 5km and 10km fun runs on Rottnest Island in Western Australia.

    The start of the Brooks Rottnest Marathon is heralded by the wail of bagpipes at 6.00am on the Sunday morning. The bagpipes have become a traditional part of the marathon and can be heard throughout the marathon at Armstrong Hill.

    39th Swim Thru Rottnest

    Conducted in the crystal clear protected waters of Rottnest Island this event was first conducted in 1977 and has been held annually ever since.

     It is always held on the first Saturday of December and is hugely popular.

    Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton

     

    The Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton is the kite surfing event of the year. The sixth edition hits the water this December.

    Starting at Phillip Point Rottnest, off the coast of Perth, the longest race of its kind in Australia has competitors racing across the Indian Ocean and the Gage Roads channel and finishing at Leighton Beach, North Fremantle.

    Rottnest Channel Swim

    Channel Swim Sporting Event

     

    Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia’s iconic events, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a ‘team’ event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event, managed by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association, is held in February of each year and is Rottnest Island’s biggest day.

    On average, Western Australia has 10 public holidays per year, most of which commemorate landmark Australian historic events, or religious celebrations. Should a State holiday fall on a weekend, the extra day’s holiday is taken on the Monday.
