Planning your function or event

Rottnest Island hosts a variety of exciting events throughout the year. Check out the events calendar or become a friend of Rottnest Island on Facebook and always be kept up to date on what's happening on the Island!

The Rottnest Island Authority receives many event and function requests each year. When planning your event or function it is important to note that as an “A Class Reserve” there are strict protocols which apply to all events and functions that take place on the Island and its surrounding waters.

Step-by-step guidelines

To guide your planning process, read the step-by-step instructions below and then click on a menu option to the left for more information. Don’t forget to allow at least three months for your application to be processed.

Please note that alcohol consumption is not allowed outside licensed premises or private domiciles. Currently there are two licensed venues on the Island - Hotel Rottnest and Rottnest Lodge.

Get approval for a private or corporate function

Step 1

Read the information available on our website.

Step 2

Choose your venue and contact directly for availability and bookings. We recommend you also confirm your accommodation, transport and catering requirements as soon as possible.

Step 3

Complete an Function Application Form (for occassions expecting less than 200 pax attending) and return to the Rottnest Island Authority with all supporting documentation and payment at least three months prior to the proposed event.

If you expect more than 200 people to attend the occassion it will be considered an Event and you are required to complete the Event Application Form below.

Step 4

Your application will be processed and you will be notified of whether it has been approved within 30 working days from receipt. Along with your approval you will receive a Compliance Form which you must  sign and return to the Authority at least two months before the proposed event.

Get approval for a Sporting or Public Event

Step 1

Contact Rottnest Island Events staff to discuss your event.

Step 3

Complete the Event Application Form (for occassions with more than 200 pax attending) and return to the Rottnest Island Authority along with all supporting documentation and any fees applicable at least three months prior to your proposed event.

Step 4

Your application will be processed and you will be notified of whether it has been approved within 30 working days from receipt. Along with your approval you will receive a Compliance Form which you must sign and return to the Authority at least 2 months before the proposed event form must be received prior to your function or event.
