Selected Images from the Quod ProjectLomas Cottage's current exhibition, Selected Images from the Quod Project, is a series of images by WA artist, Tania Ferrier, with the assistance of Fremantle based photographer, James Kerr. It is a response to the artist’s distress in learning that the accommodation site of her childhood holidays had been a prison for Aboriginal men and boys from 1838 to 1931.
Ferrier addresses the mixed history of the Quod, as both a popular holiday resort as well as a site of trauma and imprisonment for Aboriginal people, with images styled to mix these different histories and experiences.
This project was made possible because of the contributions of Aboriginal people to it, including Cedric Jacobs, Noel Nannup, Michael Smith, Glen Stasiuk and Curtis Taylor.
