Rottofest 2010

“Heading for Rotto in the middle of winter for some sort of festival just has ‘really good idea’ written all over it. Those that like crowds, massive beer lines and bad Aussie hip-hop can have theirs, mine is a winter’s weekend on WA’s island playground – with good friends, new friends, comedy, film and music.”
Daniel Parkinson, Drum Media Perth

After the success of last years Rottnest Comedy and Short Film Festival there was no doubting it would be back for 2010. This year with the catchier name of Rottofest and all night events taking place under a big marquee, the festival is sure to keep crowds entertained as well as delivering an affordable winter getaway.

In a weekend jam-packed with goodness it all kicks off on August 27 with the Funk Club’s Opening Spectacular, featuring Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics, the renowned Funk Club House Band with DJ’s Nandez 500 and Chopper Crucial.

If witnessing Australia’s top comedians battle it out in the final of Launch the Comedian wasn’t enough for you, Saturday night’s entertainment will also bring Merrick Watts as your MC. Best known as one half of Australia’s famous comedy duo Merrick & Rosso, Watts is sure to have the crowd laughing their respective pants off. With $5,000 up for grabs for the winner, Launch the Comedian is what Rottofest is all about – showcasing the nation’s finest talent!

During the day the Island will be buzzing with street performers, comedy shows and punters can even watch the comedy skit and short film submissions from the Search for Australia’s Funniest Media Perth, Live 2009 Filmmakers, with the daily screenings held at the iconic Rottnest Island Picture Hall. The best judged comedy skit and comedy short film will be awarded prizes on Sunday 29th.

Wrapping it all up is the Rottofest Closing Party. Featuring three of WA’s best rock bands in Sugar Army, the Scotch of Saint James and Emperors, the Closing Party is the perfect finale to this one-of-a-kind festival.
