Sit back relax and take in the Island charm. With all the essential amenities supplied, the self contained accommodation is one of the most popular types of lodging on the Island. With its own kitchen, bathroom and separate bedrooms and linen and bath towels included our self contained accommodation gives you peace of mind and time to relax with the comforts of home.
Superior View Cottages: Imagine waking up to an uninterrupted ocean view from your Superior cottage. With only a handful of Superior View Cottages on the Island located within Thomson Bay, Bathurst Point and Kingstown, they are a treasured piece of Rottnest history. Cottages are defined as heritage and have been refurbished within the constraints of the heritage regulations. Cottages come in the configurations of four bed, six bed and eight bed.
Heritage View Cottages: What better way to discover about Rottnest Island and its history than to stay in one of our cherished Heritage Cottages. Like the Superior View Cottages they offer marvellous views and are situated within Thomson Bay offering a fascinating insight to Rottnest history. Cottages are defined as heritage and have been refurbished. Cottages come in the configurations of four bed, six bed and eight bed.

Villas: With beautiful views over the tranquil bays on Rottnest Island, Villas are the most popular type of accommodation on the Island. Having all been refurbished in the past five years, Villas are located in Thomson Bay, Bathurst, Longreach Bay, Fays Bay and Geordie Bay. Villas come in configurations of four bed, six bed and eight bed.


Units: With a cosy and relaxing atmosphere Units are situated back from the beach and are a very similar layout to Villas. Units can be found in Thomson Bay, Bathurst, Fays Bay along with one Unit in Longreach Bay and Geordie Bay. Having all been refurbished in the past five years Units come with the configurations of four bed, six bed and eight beds.

Basic Accommodation
Looking for a more budget style of accommodation but still wanting some home comforts? Our basic accommodation options are a great choice. Bungalows and Cabins are situated within the Thomson Bay area. Basic accommodation comes without linen, bath towels or TV’s and Caroline Thomson Cabins have no Microwaves. All these items are available for hire by contacting Central Reservations at least 24 hours prior to your arrival.
Bungalows: Built in the 1920’s, the Bungalows provide a wonderful experience of Rottnest Island. Bungalows were one of the first types of holiday accommodation on the Island and have a relaxed atmosphere. The bungalows have been refurbished but have retained their important heritage charm. Bungalows now come with private bathrooms and newly refurbished kitchen, Bungalows come in configurations of four bed and six bed only

Caroline Thomson Cabins: These comfortable cabins are located within the Thomson Bay area next to the Allison Camping Ground. The cedar-clad cabins were opened in January 2002, were refurbished in 2008 and offer cosy budget style accommodation. The one room cabins contain a kitchenette, two sets of bunks and a double bed with a separate bathroom attached. The cabins can sleep up to six guests.

Governors Circle
Governors Circle Cottages comprises nine self contained cottages, with 9, 13 or 18 beds with the bedding configuration mainly in bunks. The larger cottage is access friendly with wheelchair ramps in place. Please be aware no linen, bath towels or TV’s are supplied. All these items are available for hire by contacting Central Reservations prior to your arrival.

Kingstown Accommodation
Kingstown is located 1km south of the Thomson Bay Main Jetty and was a focal point in Rottnest Islands WW2 operations as it housed the Australian Army during wartime operations. Kingstown Barracks accommodation was opened for educational use in 1984/1985 and has become a much loved camp destination for many WA schools.

Please Note: There is no alcohol permitted within the dorms, hostel or grounds of Kingstown Barracks. Alcohol will not be delivered to the Kingstown area by the luggage team.
Kingstown Barracks: The former army barracks at Kingstown features 17 dormitory rooms, ideal for school and other groups. Some rooms have private ablutions and wheelchair facilities. Communal ablution facilities are available. Please check with Visitor Centre for opening times. Please be aware no linen or bath towels are provided. All these items are available for hire by contacting Central Reservations prior to your arrival.
Kingstown Barracks houses the Rottnest Island Environmental Education Centre, an education and accommodation venue for schools, community groups and the general public. Some rooms cater for disabled guests. The Barracks is restricted to groups where participants are under 18 years with the exception of the period from mid December to mid February when all are welcome. Bookings for the dormitories cannot be made online.
Hostel: The Rottnest Island Hostel is a great low budget option for guests just wanting a place to rest their head. The hostel has 50 beds (including family rooms and dormitories), a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge with television. Communal ablution facilities are available.
Hostel beds are supplied with bed linen but guests will need to bring their own towels or hire them by contacting Central Reservations prior to your arrival.

Camping on Rottnest Island
Rottnest Island is an ‘A’ Class Nature Reserve and there is only one designated camping area on the Island located within the Thomson Bay area. Guests found camping outside of the Camping Ground are at risk of receiving an infringement from the Rottnest Island Rangers.
The Camping Ground is located within the Thomson Bay area just behind the Caroline Thomson Cabins.The partly shaded camping grounds must be booked and guests are obliged to provide their own tent. The sites are unpowered and open fires or generators are not permitted. Each site is allocated 50sqm.
The Camping Ground offers basic camping facilities with BBQs, lighting and water tap as well as a nearby ablution block. Camp sites are limited to a maximum of six people per site and a maximum of 1 large or 2 small tents.
Please note: No alcohol will be delivered to the Camping Ground.
