Mirliny Cultural Yarning Experience

Join a yarning circle to explore Noongar Creation Stories and the Noongar six seasons.

Join a cultural yarn on Wadjemup and connect with the Noongar seasons.

Step into the heart of Noongar culture with the Mirliny Cultural Yarning Experience - a guided Aboriginal-led session that invites you to connect with Country and discover the stories that shape Wadjemup.

Inspired by the traditional yarning circle, this 45-minute experience begins with a warm welcome from your Aboriginal guide before settling into a meaningful conversation that explores Wadjemup’s cultural significance and the practices of caring for Country.

Through storytelling and cultural sharing, you’ll explore:

  • Ancient Creation Stories that define Noongar identity
  • The rhythms of the Noongar Six Seasons, including changing weather patterns, animal behaviours, and native food sources
  • An introduction to Noongar language, learning greetings and simple conversational phrases

The name Mirliny (pronounced mir-l-in) comes from the Noongar word for the balga fire stick - a tool that sparks warmth and connection. Just like its namesake, this experience is designed to ignite understanding and respect, helping you to leave the island with a deeper appreciation of Noongar traditions and a lasting connection to Wadjemup.
